BASIC/ADVANCED CPR & FIRST AID COURSES
HEALTHCARE TRAINING
Healthcare Training is for any and all hospital or healthcare personnel who are working in a clinical setting. Superior Life Support offers American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, PALS, and Airway Management training.
BLS
Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers is American Heart Association’s first responder CPR course. This covers all basic CPR certification needed for working in a hospital or medical care facility. If you are not a healthcare provider, you can still participate in this course! There is no pre course information necessary. It is designed to give you the fundamentals of CPR in a medical setting. The course also provides CEU units for dental workers such as DMD’s DDO’s RDA and RDH’s.
ACLS
Advanced Cardiac Life Support is an advanced course for Healthcare Providers who are involved in units or workplace situations that use advanced mega codes. The course is designed for the student to have a basic knowledge of cardiac drugs, basic rhythms and how to apply them in a critical situation. The students are required to take a pre course through their student manual, complete the coursework and sit for a written exam and megacode skills test. Nurses, RT’s and Paramedics can receive CEU’s for this course.
PALS
Pediatric Advanced Life Support is designed to provide the Healthcare Provider with knowledge on pediatric life saving skills. The students will be give case studies, walked through airway management systems and given the opportunity to practice codes on an infant and child in simulation. If a person wishes to take the course and is not familiar with the material, they should consider PEARS or Airway management to familiarize themselves with the airway management material. Students are required to complete all course videos, sit for a written exam, and code case skills test. Nurses, RT’s and Paramedics can receive CEU’s for this course.
PEARS
Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization teaches providers how to recognize respiratory distress, shock and cardiac arrest, and provide appropriate lifesaving interventions for first responders.
COMMUNITY TRAINING
Community Training is CPR AED and First Aid for the layperson. They cover the basic role of first responders and what to do before EMS arrives on scene.
Heartsaver CPR AED
Teaches adult CPR and AED use, as well as how to relieve choking on an adult. It also provides basic child and infant CPR although those modules are optional in the curriculum. This course is structured for anyone needing CPR Training who is outside a hospital/clinical setting.
Heartsaver First Aid
First Aid skills covered in the course revolve around work place injury such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and symptoms of a heart attack.
Heartsaver CPR AED and First Aid
Heartsaver CPR AED and First Aid is a course that teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage a first aid, choking or sudden cardiac arrest emergency. First Aid skills covered in the course revolve around work place injury such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and symptoms of a heart attack.
Heartsaver Pediatric CPR AED and First Aid
The Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED Course is designed to meet the regulatory requirements for child care workers in all 50 United States. It teaches child care providers and others to respond to and manage illnesses and injuries in a child or infant in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. The course covers the Four Steps of Pediatric First Aid and modules in Pediatric First Aid, Child/Infant CPR AED, Adult CPR AED and Asthma Care Training.
INSTRUCTOR TRAINING
This is for those who are interested in becoming certified instructors. Superior Life Support is an American Heart Association Training Center that is certified in ACLS, PALS and BLS disciplines.
Instructor Training is provided for the ACLS, PALS, BLS and Heartsaver disciplines.
Each course follows a similar outline course requirements that are listed below:
- Provider Course Completion
- Instructor Essentials
- Instructor Course Training
- Teaching a Provider Course Monitoring
Every student must complete the provider course in the discipline they are seeking to become an instructor in. For the BLS and Heartsaver disciplines, this is the only prerequisite for the taking the instructor course. For the ACLS and PALS disciplines, a medical license with a ACLS or PALS scope is required. Nurses, Paramedics, Doctors and RT’s would fall in this category.
Instructor Essentials
Instructor Essentials will be emailed out to all students who register for the course. This self-directed, online course teaches the following general competencies identified by the International Board of Standards for Training, Performance and Instruction (IBSTPI):
- Planning and Preparation for Courses
- Instructing Courses
- Conducting Written Exams, Skills Practice and Skills Testing
- Keeping your Instructor Status Current
A completion certificate is generated upon completion and should be printed out and brought to the course.
Location
Instructor Course training is conducted at the Superior Life Support Training Facility. The information provided in the course will guide the instructor in setting up a class, performing correct administration tasks and documentation needed for all American Heart Association courses, giving an introduction to the American Heart Association website and materials, understanding the hierarchy of the AHA, and providing business advice.
The final step to all Instructor courses is attending a provider course for monitoring. Your instructor card will be issued based on the monitoring date of the provider course you attend. For those attending ACLS and PALS Instructor courses, you must attend an initial course in its entirety to complete the monitoring aspect of the instructor class.
OFFSITE TRAINING
Superior Life Support offers CPR AED and First Aid Training for companies throughout the Santa Clarita and Los Angeles area. For more information on the courses available please review the detailed information and fill out the Training Request form.
Superior Life Support is a certified American Safety and Health Institute Training Center as well as an American Heart Association Training Center.
What type of certification you will need for your business is dependent on your company or corporation’s requirements for training. Both organizations offer certification for CPR AED and First Aid Training as well as Healthcare CPR Training. (Please note: Most healthcare centered companies/corporations require American Heart Association certification. Please consult your HR for details.)
Superior Life Support offers offsite classes for group training of 10 or more students at a specific location. There is a discount offered for $10 off each student over a group of 10.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – This course can be provided for hospital training or new nursing, RT, paramedics or doctors.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – For pediatric training in hospital or new nursing, RT, paramedics or doctors
CPR AED Training
Heartsaver CPR AED – This course is the CPR AED for any and all personnel outside hospital facility and or medical field providers.
Heartsaver CPR AED and First Aid – This course has the CPR AED training for all personnel outside the medical field as well as first responder First Aid.
Heartsaver Pediatric CPR AED and First Aid – This course would fall under any pediatric specific entity such as daycare or preschool. Pediatric is defined as children between the ages of 1-8 years of age. Please consult your HR or agency to determine if this course is designed for you.
American Health and Safety Institute
Corporate Training
Basic First Aid – First Aid covers removing contaminated gloves, primary assessments for responsive and unresponsive person(s), controlling severe bleeding, stabilizing head, neck, or back injuries and stabilizing swollen, painful, deformed limbs.
Basic CPR AED – There are two components offered for CPR Training, Adult only or adult, child and infant CPR. Depending of the type of work atmosphere you will be participating in, the company can choose the training that best suits them.
Basic CPR AED and First Aid – combined you can hold the class in an Adult specific training or an Adult Child and Infant Training.
Basic Pediatric CPR AED and First Aid – Basic pediatric emphasis with adult compliments. Does not fulfill the training child care provider status for California.
