Did you know that vitamin D Sufficiency could have neuroprotective effect in sudden cardiac arrest?

“53 patients who were resuscitated after a sudden cardiac event were recently examined.  Neurologic outcomes were assessed using Cerebral Performance Category scores taken six months after being discharged from a hospital.  Analysis of blood serum levels of Vitamin D found deficiency in 31 patients.

29% of the Vitamin D deficient group did not survive 6 months.  No deaths were seen in the group with sufficient Vitamin D levels.

Researchers concluded “Vitamin D deficiency increased the risk of poor neurological outcome after sudden cardiac arrest by seven-fold”.
